Stewardship Of Treasure
What is Stewardship?
Stewardship is not simply making donations or taking care of the buildings and grounds. It is a spirituality, a way of life made of four parts:
•Receiving the gifts of God with gratitude
•Cultivating them responsibly
•Sharing them lovingly in justice with others
•Standing before the Lord in a spirit of accountability
Ultimately, all that we have comes from God: our time, our talents and our treasure.
How much should I give?
It is the duty of every Catholic to support the work of the Church. Each household is asked to pray and discern what they can give in support of the parish. It should involve a certain amount of sacrifice and an honest effort to give our “First Fruits” (Lev. 23:10) to God, not just any surplus. Tithing is a good idea. It is typically giving 10% of your income. It is biblically supported.
It typically takes $60,000 a month for parish operations.
- 43% – personnel
- 23% – programming
- 13% – physical plant
- 4% – capital campaign
- 17% – discretionary
A 10% tithe is suggested and can be split between the church and other charities that you participate in. Also, your time and talent are part of tithing, so if you can’t tithe your weekly income, consider sharing more of your time.
