Early Christian Art and Architecture
presented by
Rosa Maria Motta,
professor of Classical Studies and Ancient Art History
at Christopher Newport University.
This four-week course will explore the origin of Christian art and architecture from the era of Constantine the Great (reigned A.D. 306-337) through the early Romanesque period in Spain, France, and Italy (10th c. A.D.) and the rise of the Gothic period in France in the 12th c. A.D.
It will also consider the legacy of Byzantine iconography and architecture in the Greek and Slavic world.
